Curriculum and Culture

Examination of these materials reveals that Veritas Academy is deeply and unapologetically traditional in its curriculum and in its methods of instruction.   The curriculum, by purpose and design, is a survey of the greatest spiritual, intellectual and cultural traditions of the West as they have been developed and refined over countless generations.

Indeed, a curriculum such as ours is available in very few elementary schools; by this standard, it might appear that we are "out of step with the times."  As a matter of fact, it is only a classical curriculum that can trace its historical antecedents from the Athens of Socrates and Plato, to the Rome of Cicero and Seneca, to the Trivium and Quadrivium of the monastic schools of the early Middle Ages, to the great universities of medieval Christendom founded at Paris and Oxford and finally to these very shores of North America.  Our Founding Fathers, and several succeeding generations , enjoyed the benefits of a classical curriculum.  When viewed from this perspective, over the span of twenty-five centuries, it becomes far less clear precisely who is "out of step."
